I’ll be honest: I barely trained for a few weeks this summer. Between the heat and all the traveling, my strength training pretty much fell off my radar. At first I thought, no big deal, I’ll pick it back up in September. Then my shoulder started acting up, the other one this time, after last year’s frozen shoulder, right in the weeks I was training the least. As a sports scientist, I know that’s no coincidence. Still, it surprised me how fast and how clearly my body reminded me: without movement, this doesn’t work. The moment I get back to training consistently and mobilizing, it gets noticeably better. Almost immediately. Every time, it’s a little wake-up call.
Maybe you know that feeling. Summer has its own pace, its own permission to let go. And at some point you notice the routine that usually holds you together is just… gone. That’s completely okay. No guilt required, no talk of “summer damage” you now need to fix. You’re not a project that needs repairing.
But before fall fills your calendar back up with everything except you, it’s worth taking an honest, kind moment with yourself: what slipped for you over summer? Not to judge yourself, but to check in with where you actually want to go.
Here are 5 questions to help you find out.
1. How much were you really moving, and when did you last actually train for strength?
A walk on the beach counts, no question, any movement is better than none. But strength training is different: it’s what keeps your muscles, your joints, and (as I’m feeling right now) your shoulders stable. Of course you can’t avoid everything – as for example my frozen shoulder last year – but you can support your body through it, prevent some stuff and simply make other stuff better quicker. In menopause, muscle mass is one of the biggest levers you have. Not just for strength and how you look, but for your health for decades to come. When did you last really train, not just move?
2. Are you eating enough protein again, or eating whatever’s around?
In vacation mode, nutrition tends to slide to the background, probably every one of us knows that. I had, for example, lots and lots of gelato. No drama, just an honest check-in: is your body getting what it actually needs to carry you, protein above all, or are you mostly eating whatever’s there?
3. Are you back to a steady sleep rhythm?
Heat, late nights, different time zones, a full mind. Sleep is often the first thing to fall apart in summer, and at the same time it’s the foundation for pretty much everything else: your energy, your mood, your recovery. I was dealing with crazy jetlag – that definitely does not get easier either. How does your sleep actually feel right now?
4. Do you still have regular meal times, or are you eating whenever there’s a gap?
Again, this isn’t about perfection or rigid rules. Just about whether your meal structure is still supporting you, or whether it dissolved somewhere in the summer chaos, and how that feels for you.
5. When did you last consciously make time just for you, not for everyone else?
This is the question that slips through the cracks the easiest, and the one that means the most to me personally. The moment everyday life picks back up, you often land right back at the bottom of your own list, like so many women I work with. What if this year, you put yourself back higher? Not someday. Now.
You don’t have to rebuild everything at once
This isn’t about what you did “wrong.” It’s about what you want to realign with now: more energy, more strength, a body you trust again. Now, and for decades to come.
Maybe you’re feeling like a lot of the women who come to me: you know something needs to change. You may have even started researching, but between a thousand tips, trends, and conflicting advice, you don’t really know where to start.
What if you had clarity in 60 minutes? Not more confusing information, but your own, personal plan?
That’s exactly what my live workshop, Your Longevity Roadmap, is for, on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at NOON EST (live, including the recording and workbook if you can’t make it live).
In 60 minutes, you’ll walk away with:
